The album was produced by George Martin and recorded at AIR Studios in Montserrat and London. McCartney wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the album and played most of the instruments himself.
The title track, “Pipes of Peace,” is a song about the possibility of world peace and features a children’s choir. The album also includes collaborations with Stevie Wonder (“What’s That You’re Doing?”) and Eric Stewart of 10cc (“So Bad”).
Overall, “Pipes of Peace” received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, reaching No. 4 on the UK album charts and No. 15 on the US Billboard 200.
